— Life Cycle Cost ModelingMathtech has considerable expertise is Life
Cycle Cost, often referred to as Total Ownership Cost. As well as developing models in
this area, Mathtech has used and enhanced commercially available models such as FLEX,
CASA, and EDCAS. We have also developed and tested statistically sound methods to reduce
the data entry requirements for these models. Some recent projects include:
- For Westinghouse, developer of marine
gas turbine engines, we used the commercially available EDCAS model to estimate total
ownership cost of their new Intercooled/Recuperating engine, and compared these costs to
those for the LM-2500 engine.
- For the Naval Air Systems Command, we
performed an engineering economy analysis to determine whether replacement of the
AN/AIC-14A Inter-Communications System in the E-2C was desirable and cost effective. This
effort led to Mathtech being selected to develop a new digital [Advanced ICS] which will
have far more performance features than other available ICSs while being much lower in
cost and weight.
- For the Avondale Shipyards, under
subcontract to Systems Exchange, we provided all algorithms, code, and estimates for Total
Ownership Cost relating to fuel consumption supporting diesel engine selection in
Avondale's LPD-17 ship proposal to the Naval Sea Systems Command. Avondale specifically
cited Mathtech's contribution to their subsequent selection as the LPD-17 shipyard.
- For the Naval Sea Systems Command,
Mathtech compared several Navy and commercial LCC models by inputting the same hardware
technical data and normalizing the output of the models to account for differing cost
categorizations.
