Environmental EconomicsEnvironmental economists at Mathtech have a
twenty year history of program evaluation support to the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency. These efforts emphasize analysis of the economic benefits of alternative
environmental regulations. Mathtech staff provides creative solutions for difficult
measurement issues using advanced methods in economics, mathematics, statistics and
computer applications. We also assist clients in a full range of regulatory development
activities, including Regulatory Impact Analyses, Small Business Impact Studies and
Information Collection Requests. Recent examples of our work in Environmental Economics
include:
- Development of an original model to
quantify ecological benefits of ozone reductions. The
model provides a framework for a more complete integration of ecological and economic
systems. This effort is being conducted with biologists from another company to better
address the interdisciplinary nature of the problem.
- Evaluation of selected benefit
assessment endpoints for the Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard regulatory impact
analysis.
- Development of an original mathematical
approch, quadratic rollback, to assess air quality improvements for various policy options
when formal dispersion modeling is not feasible.
- Evaluation of the benefits and costs of
the Compliance Assurance Monitoring program.
- Industry analyses of the economic impacts of proposed EPA regulations required under
the Clean Air Act. These analyses use a partial equilibrium model developed by Mathtech
and adapted to each industry study.
